Strongest Stone Lifter 2027 | Tallahassee Highland Games

Stones of Strength returns to the Tallahassee Highland Games with a $4,450 cash prize and athlete scholarship pool. This dedicated stone-strength competition takes place inside a full Highland Games weekend of traditional athletics, clans, music, heritage, food, vendors, and family activities.

  • IHGF Women’s Masters World’s Strongest Stone Lifter 40+: $750 / $500 / $300 — $1,550 total
  • IHGF Men’s Masters America’s Strongest Stone Lifter 40+: $600 / $400 / $200 — $1,200 total
  • Florida’s Strongest Stone Lifter — Women’s Open: $500 / $250 / $100 — $850 total
  • Florida’s Strongest Stone Lifter — Men’s Open: $500 / $250 / $100 — $850 total

The complete 2027 Tallahassee Highland Games athletics weekend awards $6,550 across Stones of Strength, Heavy Athletics, and the IHGF National Caber Championship. The $4,450 figure above is specific to Stones of Strength.

Five stone events

  • Stone Press: clean and press for repetitions; no tacky.
  • Fefor Stone Carry: carry for maximum distance; no tacky.
  • Stone Put: heavy stone put for maximum legal distance.
  • Stone Medley: move natural stones from lightest to heaviest for time.
  • Stone Load to Barrel: load stones from lightest to heaviest for time; tacky permitted.

Final 2027 implements and event weights will be published after the stone inventory and event configuration are finalized. Do not treat previous-year weights as guaranteed 2027 implements.

Compete in both

The weekend schedule is staggered by division so experienced athletes may take on both Strongest Stone Lifter and traditional Heavy Athletics. It is demanding, but athletes have successfully doubled up in prior years.

Heavy Athletics brings the full traditional Scottish throwing experience: Braemar Stone, Open Stone, weight for distance, hammers, weight over bar, sheaf toss, and caber toss. Strongest Stone Lifter adds five demanding stone events and additional championship pathways.

Saturday and Sunday: athlete check-in 8:00 AM · mandatory athlete meeting 8:30 AM · competition begins 9:00 AM.
